Position Summary
A Board‑Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master’s‑level professional who assesses, designs, and oversees individualized behavior intervention programs to improve socially significant behaviors, often for individuals with autism or developmental disabilities. BCBAs conduct assessments, analyse behavioural data, and develop evidence‑based treatment plans while supervising behavior technicians and training caregivers to ensure consistent implementation. They collaborate with families, educators, and healthcare providers, monitor client progress, and adjust interventions as needed, all while adhering to ethical standards set by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board.
Core Responsibilities
Assessment & Evaluation
- Conduct behavioural assessments (e.g., functional behaviour assessments)
- Identify problem behaviours and skill deficits
- Analyse data to determine causes of behaviours
Treatment Planning
- Develop individualized behaviour intervention plans (BIPs)
- Set measurable goals for clients
Implementation Oversight
- Supervise behaviour technicians (RBTs)
- Train staff and caregivers on intervention strategies
- Ensure programmes are implemented correctly
Data Collection & Analysis
- Monitor client progress using data
- Adjust interventions based on outcomes
- Maintain detailed documentation and reports
Family & Team Collaboration
- Work with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers
- Provide parent training and support
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
Ethical & Professional Compliance
- Follow guidelines set by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Stay up to date with research and continuing education
Minimum Degree Requirement
You must have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as:
- Behaviour Analysis
- Education
- Special Education
Required Coursework
- A BACB‑approved course sequence
- Or a verified program covering topics such as:
- Ethics
- Measurement & data analysis
- Behaviour assessment
- Intervention strategies
Supervised Fieldwork
You must complete supervised practical experience:
- Typically 1,500–2,000 hours
- In real‑world settings (schools, clinics, etc.)
Pass the BCBA Exam
After completing education and fieldwork, you must pass the certification exam administered by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board.
