What You'll Do
- Conduct initial functional behavior assessments (FBA)
- Review current FBAs annually
- Write positive behavior intervention plan (PBIP) annually for students on caseload
- Monitor effectiveness of PBIP
- Develop data collection process for individual students and regularly creates graphical data representations
- Develops supports and implement reinforcement based individual and classroom management systems
- Provide direct support to students using applied behavior analysis (ABA) methodologies
- Assist in the development and implementation of IEPs
- Provide technical assistance and professional development to school staff and parents
- Utilize techniques for verbal de-escalation of aggressive behavior during a crisis utilizing Techniques for Effective Adolescent and Child Handling (TEACH)
- Communicate and function effectively as a member of a classroom and school team (related service providers, paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, parents)
- Assist in the development of individual education plans (IEP)
- Attend school district meetings when applicable and/or as requested by the department
What You Bring
- Required Certification: Must hold and maintain an active Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) certification from the BACB.
- Florida Certification: Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, certification as an Assistant Behavior Analyst from the Florida Department of Health.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college is required.
- School-Based Experience: A minimum of one year of experience implementing ABA principles is required, with direct experience in a K-12 school setting being strongly preferred.
- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in assisting with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), implementing and monitoring Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and conducting skill acquisition programming under the supervision of a BCBA.
- Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a student's Exceptional Student Education (ESE) team, collaborating closely with your supervising BCBA, teachers, RBTs, and parents.
- Supervision & Ethics: A strong understanding of the BCaBA's role, including a commitment to working under the direction and supervision of a qualified BCBA and adhering to the BACB's ethics code.
- Compliance: Ability to pass a Level 2 background check as required by the state of Florida for working in schools.
