Overview
Bioinformatician role at Crossing Hurdles. This is an hourly contract position.
Base pay range: $60.00/hr - $90.00/hr
Location: Remote (U.S., UK, or Canada only)
Duration: 1–2 months (with potential extension)
Commitment: 10–20 hrs/week (scalable up to 40 hrs/week)

Role Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate benchmark bioinformatics tasks to test AI models’ ability to analyze sequencing data.
- Create workflows from real-world, published datasets , ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Implement and validate analyses using multiple command-line bioinformatics tools (e.g., BWA, BLAST, samtools, Alphafold, etc.).
- Provide detailed feedback on AI-generated bioinformatics workflows, outputs, and interpretations.
- Collaborate asynchronously with AI research teams to refine experimental design and task evaluation criteria.
- Document processes and ensure compliance with best practices in computational biology and genomics research.
Qualifications
- Must be a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.), Postdoctoral Fellow, or Research Scientist in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related quantitative field.
- Must have recently authored a bioinformatics research paper (published in 2024 or later) .
- Publication must include publicly deposited sequencing data (e.g., SRA or other stable repositories).
- Publication must demonstrate the use of at least 3 command-line bioinformatics tools (BWA, BLAST, samtools, Alphafold, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment .
- Access to a desktop or laptop computer (Chromebooks not supported).
