Behavior Specialist
Primary Function: To support classroom teachers who may experience difficulty in the classroom setting with students who exhibit behaviors that interfere with the learning of others or their own learning. Specialist work directly with students in their development of strategies to manage their own behavior in order to progress in the curriculum.
Requirements:
- Educational Level: Bachelor Degree required, BCBA preferred
- Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Teaching Certification in Special Education
- Experience: 5 years successful classroom experience
- Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; collaboration; data management and analysis; demonstration of proficiency in all components of special education due process procedures
Essential Duties:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
- Adheres to federal, state and local due process procedures
- Train teachers on completing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
- Analyze behavior data collected by classroom teachers and through FBA data collection
- Write FBA reports and provide feedback on reports to schools
- Follow-up with school staff on Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) by monitoring the implementation of the BIP
- Review student IEPs before conducting student observations for behavior for students with disabilities
- Complete observation summaries and review with school staff and parents
- Schedule and implement Mindset training for staff
- Monitor monthly restraint documentation for each school
- Provide supports and assist with training for Behavior Coaches
- Guide general and special education teachers on implementing classroom management practices
- Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers on classroom management and/or behavior strategies for specific students
- Intervene during acute behavioral episodes, utilizing approved de-escalation techniques and safety protocols
- Travel within the district is required and may include occasional state travel
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
