REPORTS TO:
School Principal (building) / Behavior Specialist (district)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of documented experience working directly with children in a behavioral intervention, special education paraprofessional, or youth support capacity
- Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), or equivalent behavioral frameworks
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, and staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with professionalism
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or comparable certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or equivalent
- Experience implementing Check-in/Check-out (CICO) programs
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Relationship-building with students who exhibit challenging behaviors
- Behavioral data collection and progress monitoring
- Clear and collaborative communication with teachers, administrators, and families
- Flexibility and problem-solving in dynamic school environments
- Ability to remain calm, regulated, and professional during student crises

DUTIES:
- Serves as the primary Check-in/Check-out (CICO) coordinator for assigned Tier 2 students, conducting structured morning check-ins and afternoon check-outs;
- Provides direct, individualized behavioral coaching and co-regulation support to students identified for Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention;
- Assists students in transitioning between settings, applying learned coping strategies, and regulating emotional responses;
- Implements individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction of the district behavior specialist or psychologist;
- Reinforces positive behaviors using consistent, evidence-based positive reinforcement strategies;
- Provides a safe, regulated presence during behavioral escalations and executes de-escalation protocols;
- Consults regularly with classroom teachers to review student behavioral progress and suggest proactive classroom strategies;
- Participates in PBIS, MTSS, or Student Support Team (SST) meetings as a contributing member;
- Communicates daily with assigned teachers regarding student behavioral patterns and progress toward goals;
- Coordinates with the district behavior specialist to ensure alignment between behavioral support services;
- Supports teachers in understanding and implementing CICO point sheets, behavioral goal tracking, and reinforcement systems;
- Collects and records behavioral data daily, including frequency, antecedents, and consequence data for assigned students;
- Maintains accurate CICO records and progress charts for all assigned students;
- Submits weekly behavioral summary reports to the district behavior specialist and/or principal;
- Documents all significant behavioral incidents in the district's student information system according to policy;
- Participates in data review meetings and contributes behavioral data to inform tier placement decisions;
- Communicates regularly with families of assigned students via phone, email, or scheduled conferences;
- Provides families with CICO summary reports and shares strategies for reinforcing behavioral goals at home;
- Serves as a positive liaison between the school and family, maintaining a supportive and non-punitive tone in all communications;
- Attends family meetings (SST, IEP, 504, where applicable) to share behavioral observations and progress data;
- Maintains confidentiality of student records and behavioral information at all times;
- Completes all required district and state training, including annual crisis intervention and PBIS training;
- Maintains CPI or equivalent crisis prevention certification as required by the district;
- Participates in regular supervision meetings with the district behavior specialist and/or principal;
- Completes professional development as assigned and pursues ongoing growth in behavioral intervention knowledge;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
