Make a lasting impact in a child’s life by becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), also known as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer. CASA/GALs are trained community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children involved in child protection court cases. You don’t need a legal background—just a big heart and a willingness to help!
We are seeking volunteers who reside in Ada, Elmore, Boise, and Valley counties, as these are the counties our program serves.
What You'll Do:
- Visit the child at least once a month to build trust and stay informed about their situation
- Write court reports based on your independent investigation, observations and conversations, helping the judge make informed decisions about the child’s future
- Attend court hearings and stay in communication with professionals and caregivers
- Stay involved for the life of the case , which typically lasts 1.5 to 2 years
- Be a consistent presence —you may be the one stable adult in a child’s life during a difficult time
Requirements to Volunteer:
- Be 21 years or older
- Attend a Volunteer Information Hour Meeting
- Complete a volunteer application
- Interview with the CASA trainer
- Pass a criminal history check
- Complete 30 hours of training
- Submit monthly case hours and miles
- Complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.
