Job Title: Batch Operator Job Description
The Batch Operator works on the production floor to accurately weigh, mix, and fill batches according to detailed specifications. This role involves operating mixers and other production equipment, handling drums and pallets, and preparing finished products for shipment. The Batch Operator closely monitors filling operations to prevent spills and inaccuracies, coordinates with quality control for testing, and performs thorough cleaning of equipment and drums using various solutions. The position requires flexibility to learn multiple tasks, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

Work safely in a production environment in close proximity to other team members.

Weigh out batches on facility scales according to batch making instructions and specification sheets.

Fill containers and drums to required levels following instructions and related ISO documents.

Roll drums weighing up to 500 lbs to pallets, palletize them, and wrap them to prepare for shipment.

Fill 2–3 batches or work orders per day while closely monitoring the filling process to prevent spills and inaccurate fills.

Send completed batches to quality control for testing and follow any feedback or adjustments as required.

Complete all required paperwork on batch tickets accurately and legibly.

Operate relevant production equipment, including mixers, pumps with filters, forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual drum moving equipment.

Safely manufacture pastes and other dispersions using high-speed disperser (HSD) mixers within the mill room.

Operate multiple mills and manage multiple processes at the same time while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

Clean all related equipment, including mixers, pumps, tanks, and drums, using designated solvent blends and cleaning solutions.

Transfer hazardous wastes such as filters, rags, scrap paint, and solvents to the satellite hazardous waste area in accordance with procedures.

Follow batch making instructions to manufacture batches in portable tanks and promptly report to a supervisor if instructions cannot be followed as written.

Select appropriate locations and properly identify materials used in batches produced in portable tanks.

Drop multiple bags of powder within a shift as required by batch making directions.

Read and interpret specification sheets, weigh and measure ingredients, and document all work to ensure accuracy.

Participate in cross-training on various production tasks and remain flexible to learning new skills and responsibilities.

Shadow an experienced batch mixer during the first week and progressively take on more responsibility while asking questions to learn the process.

Work independently and manage assigned batches after approximately two weeks of training, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Essential Skills

Previous machine operating or production experience.

Ability to read and write in English to follow instructions and complete documentation accurately.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to check, verify, and follow established processes.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and roll drums weighing up to 500 lbs safely using appropriate equipment.

Capability to multitask at a high level, operating multiple mills and handling multiple processes simultaneously.

Comfort working with paints, solvents, and cleaning solutions in a manufacturing environment.

Positive, coachable attitude and willingness to learn through shadowing and cross-training.

Basic material handling skills, including filling, batch mixing, and inventory-related activities.

Ability to operate or learn to operate mixers, blenders, pumps with filters, forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual drum moving equipment.

Reliability and flexibility to work a 2nd shift schedule and occasional Saturdays as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior batch mixing experience, especially in paint, ink, or similar industries.

Work Environment
This position is based on a production floor within a facility that manufactures and mixes paint. The environment includes the noticeable smell of paint and the use of solvents and cleaning solutions. The role operates on a 2nd shift schedule, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with flexibility required to work occasional Saturdays. You will work around mixers, pumps with filters, high-speed disperser mixers, mills, forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual drum moving equipment. The work involves handling drums, lifting up to 50 lbs, and managing multiple processes simultaneously. The facility follows documented procedures and ISO-related instructions, and employees are expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols at all times.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
