Location: Buddy and Son at PUBLIC Hotel, Lower East Side, New York, NY

Compensation: $11.35 per hour plus tips
ABOUT BUDDY AND SON
Buddy and Son is a seasonal brasserie inside PUBLIC Hotel on the Lower East Side, with 95 seats in the dining room, 35 in the bar area, and a 60-seat garden.
The cooking is ingredient-driven and unfussy: sophisticated in sensibility, simple in execution, and built around thoughtful sourcing and seasonality. The beverage program follows the same approach—classic foundations, well-made drinks, useful wine knowledge, and none of the theater getting in the way of hospitality.
THE ROLE
We are looking for experienced Bartenders who can deliver excellent drinks while creating the warmth and rhythm that make a great bar feel alive.
Our Bartenders are responsible for the guests seated at the bar as well as the timely execution of beverages for the dining room. The right candidate has strong technical fundamentals, works cleanly and efficiently, and understands that conversation, awareness, and hospitality matter just as much as what is in the glass.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare cocktails, wine, beer, coffee, and nonalcoholic beverages accurately and efficiently.
- Provide warm, attentive service to guests seated at the bar.
- Develop a complete understanding of the cocktail, spirits, beer, wine, and food menus.
- Make thoughtful recommendations based on each guest’s preferences.
- Maintain speed and accuracy while supporting service-bar volume.
- Follow established recipes, specifications, pours, and presentation standards.
- Accurately ring orders, process payments, and maintain responsibility for assigned checks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout service.
- Complete bar prep, opening duties, closing duties, and inventory-related assignments.
- Monitor product quality, waste, breakage, and low-stock items.
- Verify identification and follow all responsible alcohol-service requirements.
- Communicate effectively with Servers, Table Support, Hosts, managers, and the kitchen.
- Assist with training and support the continued development of the beverage program.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Warm, composed, and comfortable building relationships with regulars and first-time guests.
- Strong knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine.
- Fast and precise without sacrificing cleanliness or hospitality.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and remain aware of the entire bar.
- Organized, reliable, and accountable.
- Generous with knowledge and willing to support the larger team.
- Interested in helping establish the culture of a new restaurant.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years of bartending experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant or cocktail bar preferred.
- New York City bartending experience is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of classic cocktail techniques and common wine varietals and regions.
- Familiarity with Toast or a comparable POS system is helpful.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
- Ability to stand and work behind the bar for the duration of a shift.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, brunches, and holidays as required.
