Barista

POSITION PURPOSE:

Cipriani is seeking a polished, reliable, and service-driven Barista / Counter Person to join our café and retail team. This role is responsible for preparing coffee and specialty beverages, serving desserts and pastries, assisting guests at the counter, operating the cash register, and maintaining the highest standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and presentation.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast paced, high pressure environment and can provide warm, efficient, and elegant service while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. This position requires someone who is hands on, organized, and able to move quickly while still representing the Cipriani standard.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages according to company standards.
• Prepare, package, and serve desserts, pastries, and other retail/counter items with proper presentation.
• Greet guests warmly and provide attentive, professional service at all times.
• Operate the TOAST POS system and cash register accurately, including processing cash, credit card, and mobile payments.
• Maintain product knowledge of menu items, ingredients, allergens, and daily offerings.
• Ensure the counter, display cases, coffee station, pastry area, and guest facing spaces are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
• Replenish cups, lids, napkins, utensils, packaging, condiments, and other service items as needed.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
• Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties as assigned.
• Communicate clearly with managers and team members regarding guest needs, product availability, and operational issues.
• Maintain composure and professionalism during busy service periods, including high-volume rushes.
• Support the team in creating a seamless, elevated guest experience consistent with Cipriani standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

• Previous barista, café, bakery, dessert counter, cashier, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Experience making espresso based drinks and other coffee beverages strongly preferred.
• Previous TOAST POS/cash handling experience preferred.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced, high volume environment.
• Strong guest service skills with a polished and professional demeanor.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive team oriented attitude.
• Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and presentation.
• Ability to multitask while remaining calm under pressure.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and able to follow direction.
• Food Handler’s certification preferred or ability to obtain if required by location.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:  

• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment. 
• Endurance to withstand long hours of standing, walking, and repetitive motions. 
• Lift and carry objects, weighing up to 50 pounds. 
• Flexibility to bend, stoop, reach, and perform physical tasks.  
• Adherence to proper lifting techniques and ergonomics to prevent strain or injury while performing job duties.
