BARBACKS (FOH) JOB DESCRIPTION

JOYCE  (Joyce Soul & Sea) is a chef-driven, upscale yet casual American Southern cuisine restaurant. Our Bib Gourmand awarded Chef shares a deep passion in sustainable seafood and is combining it with his southern roots to create amazing shareable dishes.

Position:                                 Barback (FOH)

FLSA Status:                           Non-exempt

Hiring Manager Job Title:      General Manager & Owner

Employment Type:                 Part Time with the opportunity, based on performance and availability, for more shifts

Pay Rate:                                $18.48 per hour plus tips 

Primary Location:                  770 South Grand Avenue, Suite A, Los Angeles, CA 90017

Job Requirements

• Barbacks must have at least 2 years of experience with a solid understanding of food and beverage. Experience in a chef-driven restaurant a plus.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High School Diploma or the equivalent.
• Availability on weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of the English language required. Additional languages a plus.
• Report to shifts on time wearing a clean and presentable Joyce uniform.
• Provide availability to management and be prepared to work scheduled shifts on a consistent basis.
• Must have Food Handler’s and RBS Certification.

Basic Skillsets

• Active Listening - Focusing full attention to what other staff, management, and guests are saying, asking questions as appropriate. Being part of the solution for the guest’s dining experience guaranteeing success for Joyce.
• Active Communication – Talk to staff, management, and guests to convey information effectively.
• Be a team player.

Primary Job Duties

• Display a positive attitude.
• Meet the standards as set forth by Joyce in training.
• Restock liquor bottles and change kegs.
• Learn cocktail recipes and other menu items.
• Clean bar and table surfaces throughout the shift.
• Wipe down chairs, railings, and other frequently touched surfaces.
• Remove and dispose of bags from trash/compost/recycling bins.
• Remove used glassware and plates from guests during their stay.
• Sweep and mop at opening and closing.
• Answer customer questions and route customer complaints to the bartenders.
• Assist bartenders by handing menus to guests and taking orders. Process orders at the POS during peak business hours.
• Stock glassware, straws, toothpicks, napkins, garnishes, ice, towels, and cleaning supplies.
• Ensure that taps, coolers, and other appliances are working. And if not report to management.
