Calling all Revenue Cycle Leadership Professionals with a strong financial advocacy background and state and federal regulatory compliance experience. Providence seeks an Associate Vice President of Financial Advocacy to lead enterprise-wide financial advocacy and compliance.
The Role
In this hybrid role, the AVP will oversee legal coordination, regulatory compliance, strategic decision making, and leadership across Providence. The responsibilities include managing enterprise-level state and federal regulations for over 51 hospitals, 1,000+ physician practices, and associated services; driving innovation and automation to improve workflow and patient experience; and leading financial assistance and health equity initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee uninsured and charity internal and external audits; serve as subject matter expert for IRS audits concerning 501(r) requirements.
- Build and maintain a high-performance team; ensure staffing meets budget, training, certification, and compliance with applicable laws and Providence policies.
- Resolve escalated issues involving CMS, regulatory bodies, legal, clinical, or patient experience matters.
- Oversee departmental budgets and participate in budget development, approval, and monitoring for productivity and cost compliance.
- Develop standard educational materials and policies for state and federal requirements; coordinate charity care and financial assistance policies with revenue cycle, finance, reimbursement, and legal stakeholders.
- Lead annual review of AGB calculations, update charity policies, plain language summaries, and AGB definitions; update hospital information systems and publish charity policies per state regulations.
- Develop, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and improve internal and external communication programs on patient registration, financial assistance, billing, reputation management, compliance, and culture.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Visionary
- Set strategy and standards for Financial Assistance and Financial Advocacy programs across all Providence ministries.
- Lead proactive internal auditing to ensure adherence to all federal and state regulations, including IRS 501(r) compliance.
Regulatory Expert
- Collaborate closely with Providence Legal and outside counsel to maintain policy compliance and interpret new or draft regulations.
- Act as internal and external subject matter expert on complex, high‑risk regulatory matters impacting reputational risk.
Operational Leader
- Oversee Patient Financial Counseling functions, including the insourcing of the Medicaid eligibility program and vendor strategy.
- Set strategic and performance goals for the departments, monitor results, and drive process improvement.
Innovation Driver
- Lead and participate in innovation and automation initiatives to improve caregiver workflow and patient experience.
- Collaborate with Data & Analytics to build PowerBI reports for monitoring processes and overall compliance.
Team Builder
- Develop and maintain a high-performance team; ensure staffing meets budget and all staff are fully trained, certified, and empowered.
- Foster a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and professional development within the team.
Change Manager
- Ensure timely communication to employees, patients, and stakeholders about organizational changes.
- Actively manage employee engagement and morale during periods of profound organizational change.
What You’ll Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field; Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in revenue cycle leadership, including 10 years in financial assistance or financial advocacy operations; 5 years in state or federal regulatory matters, including investigations.
- Skills: Proven ability to build relationships and coordinate with Chief Executives and Division CFOs on AG and regulatory matters.
- Leadership: Effective leadership, organizational skills, and high initiative.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations and third‑party contracts related to healthcare reimbursement and collection processes.

Job Details
Full time, Day shift, Remote location at Providence Valley Office Park – Renton, WA. Pay range: $85.56 – $152.95 per hour.
