Avionics Technician

This role focuses on performing avionics repair, installation, and modification on a variety of commercial fixed-wing aircraft. You will work hands-on in a hangar environment, diagnosing and resolving avionics issues, installing new systems, and supporting aircraft return-to-service in a fast-paced, time-sensitive setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform avionics repair, installation, and modification on a variety of commercial fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot avionics systems to identify faults and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Install, configure, and verify avionics equipment and systems in accordance with technical data and regulatory requirements.
  • Support aircraft modification projects, including integration of new avionics components and systems.
  • Use wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to perform harness work and system installations.
  • Ensure all work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards to support timely aircraft return-to-service.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, especially on time-critical projects, to minimize aircraft downtime.
  • Use personal tools in an organized tool box to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and maintenance personnel to coordinate work and meet project schedules.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of avionics experience.
  • Hands-on aircraft avionics experience, preferably on commercial fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Proficiency in avionics troubleshooting and diagnosis of system faults.
  • Experience with avionics installation, including wiring and harness work.
  • Background in aircraft modification or repair involving avionics systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Capability to support time-sensitive work focused on returning aircraft to service quickly.
  • Ownership of personal tools stored in a tool box (tools do not need to be shadowed or etched).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Commercial aircraft avionics experience is preferred, but experience on any aircraft platform will be considered.
  • Experience working on aircraft modification projects is highly valued.
  • Experience performing avionics repairs in a maintenance or hangar environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and shift assignments.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hangar environment working on commercial fixed-wing aircraft. The primary schedule options include a day shift structured as four 10-hour shifts (7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday) or three 13-hour shifts (7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday through Sunday), with the understanding that shifts may change based on operational needs. You will work around active maintenance operations, aircraft systems, and standard aviation tools and equipment. Personal tools must be kept in a tool box, though they do not need to be shadowed or etched. The environment is fast-paced and focused on time-sensitive projects, particularly work related to returning aircraft to service quickly.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
