Software Systems Engineer
A Software Systems Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation and orchestration platforms to enhance IT infrastructure and service delivery. This mid-level role involves collaboration across development, operations, and security teams to establish scalable, reliable, and secure automation solutions. The engineer will work on building systems from the ground up, resolving complex operational challenges, and supporting infrastructure across various environments.
Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and administer automation platforms such as Terraform Enterprise, Ansible Automation Platform, Vault, and Packer.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration, security, and consistency in automation practices.
- Develop operational standards, documentation, and lifecycle management processes for automation platforms.
- Integrate solutions like self-service portals, CMDB, platform security, secrets management, and observability tools.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize platform availability and resilience.
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows using tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.
- Provide training, guidance, and documentation for engineering teams on automation technologies.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to automation, cloud-native architectures, and containerization.
- Support VMware and Kubernetes/container environments with troubleshooting, deployment, configuration, and security updates.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, responding to infrastructure and system issues as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in deploying and administering automation platforms such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, and Vault in large enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of automation architecture, components, and ecosystem, with hands-on experience at scale.
- Experience developing automation pipelines and integrating with CI/CD workflows.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
- Knowledge of system observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Familiarity with security practices including SSO, RBAC, and PKI.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
- Background in infrastructure lifecycle management, capacity planning, and understanding of databases, networking, storage, and backup strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and technical leadership abilities.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in software systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or platform operations.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience administering automation tools or IaC platforms.

Publishing Pay Range: $30.00 – $40.00 hourly This position offers a hybrid schedule, with time split between in-office collaboration and remote work.
