Remote Full Time Design & Development

The Opportunity

We are working with a long-established machine builder with more than 115 years of engineering heritage. With significant growth, the business is looking for a Senior Automation Design Engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of automation and control systems.

This is a genuinely hands-on senior engineering position where you will own automation projects from concept and bid-stage modelling through electrical design, manufacture, build and commissioning. You will also lead an established team of two controls engineers, with scope to develop and grow the wider engineering function as the business expands.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Create PLC programmes from concept to completion using Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Studio 5000 and Ladder Logic.
  • Develop and tune servo motion control using Rockwell Kinetix drives and Studio 5000 Motion.
  • Produce and interpret electrical schematics and enclosure layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Configure HMI and visualisation systems using Allen-Bradley PanelView and FactoryTalk.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from conceptual design and bidding through detailed design, manufacture, build and completion.
  • Programme AC drives such as Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 and debug servo systems.
  • Produce Functional Design Specifications and electrical Bills of Materials.
  • Select and integrate sensors, encoders and field devices.
  • Design Ethernet layouts and configure IP addressing.
  • Apply machine safety requirements throughout design and build.
  • Create or modify pneumatic schematics where required.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with strong, proven hands-on controls and automation experience, including:

  • AutoCAD Electrical, ideally versions .
  • Allen-Bradley PLC programming using Studio 5000.
  • CompactLogix and ControlLogix.
  • Kinetix 5500 and/or Kinetix 5700 servo drives.
  • Proven ability to write PLC programmes from scratch in Ladder Logic.
  • AC drive programming and servo motor debugging.
  • Functional Design Specifications and electrical BOM creation.
  • Machine safety knowledge.
  • Sensors, encoders and motor interfacing.
  • Ethernet layouts and IP configuration.

Experience with Siemens S7, Kinetix 6500, Fanuc robots, pneumatic schematics and EU/CE marking requirements would be advantageous, but is not essential.

The Person

You will be a genuinely hands-on engineer who enjoys being close to the detail and the build rather than working purely from a desk. You will be collaborative, dependable and comfortable taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to have real technical influence, support and mentor other engineers, and help shape a growing automation engineering function.

Package & Location

  • $100,000-$150,000 salary depending on experience
  • Fully on-site, not remote
