Position Overview

Job Title: Patient Engagement Authorization Specialist I (IAS II)

Department/Unit: Patient Engagement Center

Work Shift: Day (United States of America)

Salary Ranges: $49,763.00 - $69,668.00 annually; $17.97 - $28.76 hourly

Key Responsibilities

  • Financially secure Ambulatory, Ancillary, Surgical and Procedural services, including Referral and Authorization.
  • Perform Insurance Verification and Benefit interpretation to ensure adherence to insurance guidelines.
  • Interact with patients, stakeholders, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives to secure financial clearance and ensure compliance with authorization and referral guidelines.
  • Use eligibility application and authorization portals to verify insurance eligibility, interpret responses and capture appropriate health insurance information.
  • Apply contractual benefits to the service rendered and collect patient financial obligation pre-services.
  • Manage work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and handle tight timeframes.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and resolve issues or escalations as needed.
  • Train and onboard colleagues and communicate effectively with the team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: CHAA (or to be acquired within 2 years of hire).
  • Experience: 3-5 years in hospital, physician office, or call center environment with strong insurance knowledge related to complex scheduling and authorization management.
  • Customer service skills with a winning personality and ability to exceed expectations.
  • Strong knowledge of payer authorization requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task in stressful, high-patient-volume settings.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to interpret patient insurance benefits and apply contractual obligations.
  • Team-minded work ethic and good judgment.

This role may require access to information considered sensitive to Albany Med Health System, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including but not limited to HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by Federal and New York State statutes.
