Atlas Medical Consultants in Bakersfield, CA is looking for a detail‑oriented Authorization Specialist to join our growing team. Responsibilities
- Initiate and manage prior authorization requests for medical procedures, treatments, and medications
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to scheduled services
- Communicate with insurance carriers, physicians, and clinical staff to obtain necessary approvals
- Track and follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely resolution
- Review and interpret payer‑specific authorization requirements and medical necessity guidelines
- Document all authorization activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Appeal denied authorizations and elevate complex cases as needed
Requirements
- 1‑3 years of experience in prior authorization, medical billing, or healthcare administration
- Strong knowledge of insurance verification, CPT/ICD‑10 coding, and medical terminology
- Experience working with EHR/EMR systems and payer portals
- Familiarity with commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid authorization processes
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high‑volume environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; medical billing/coding certification a plus
