Audiologist, Harrington Hospital, Charlton - Per Diem, Various Shifts

The role involves diagnosing, treating, and managing individuals with hearing loss or balance problems across neonatal to geriatric populations. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, testing, rehabilitative counseling, and educational consulting.

Major Responsibilities

1. Identify, assess, diagnose, manage, and interpret test results related to disorders of hearing, balance, and other neural systems for neonatal through geriatric populations.
2. Conduct and supervise newborn hearing screening programs; measure and interpret tests for neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring and cranial nerve assessment; perform otoscopic examinations; manage external ear canal; evaluate and manage patients with central auditory processing disorders.
3. Select, evaluate, fit, adjust, and dispense hearing aids, cochlear implants, sensory aids, hearing assistive devices, alerting systems, telecommunications systems, and captioning devices.
4. Provide audiological rehabilitation, including speech‑reading, communication management, language development, and counseling for psychosocial adjustments to hearing loss for patients and their families or caregivers.
5. Consult with educators as part of interdisciplinary teams on communication management, educational implications of hearing loss, classroom acoustics, and large‑area amplification systems for children with hearing loss.
6. Design, implement, and coordinate occupational, school, and community hearing‑conservation and identification programs to prevent workplace and recreational hearing loss due to noise.

Position Qualifications

License / Certification / Education (Required)

1. Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.
2. Massachusetts Audiologist license.
3. Attainment of the Certificate of Clinical Competence within six months of hire.

Experience & Skills (Required)

1. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Audiology.
2. Demonstrated skill in analyzing problems and making decisions.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.
5. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience & Skills (Preferred)

1. Minimum of one year of Audiology experience.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions

Work is considered sedentary. The position requires indoor work in a patient‑care and normal office environment.
