Auburn University Clinical Pathology Residency/Graduate Student Position

Auburn University is seeking highly enthusiastic individuals for a residency position in Veterinary Clinical Pathology that will start in July 2027. This can be a combined residency/graduate training program (MS or PhD), but a graduate degree is NOT a required element of the residency. Our program is intended to provide residents with a strong foundation in diagnostic clinical pathology and basic and/or clinical research. Our goal is to prepare residents for successful completion of the ACVP board examination, with sufficient research experience to facilitate any chosen career path. The program emphasizes the integration of clinical and laboratory diagnostic findings, and their application to the diagnosis of disease in animals.

Residents are mentored by ACVP board-certified clinical pathologists. Training includes both formal (courses, rounds, seminars) and informal interactions with faculty and staff. Original research is required for the MS and PhD programs, and research opportunities exist in many areas including platelet function testing and hemostasis, clinical application of flow cytometry, oncology, infectious disease, molecular pathology, neuropathology, metabolism and endocrine disorders, avian and aquatic pathobiology, and parasitic disease.

Residents in Clinical Pathology participate in the instruction of veterinary students at many levels, including didactic, clinical case discussions, and supervision of clinical rotations in diagnostic pathology. Residents are also encouraged to give presentations regarding research findings and/or clinical cases at national, regional, and local meetings.

The tentative start date (negotiable) is July 12, 2027. Residents in clinical pathology are offered a competitive salary ($50,000/year) and a benefits package that includes a tuition waiver and a subsidized group health insurance plan underwritten by United HealthCare Insurance Co.

Applicants must have appropriate training in veterinary medicine (graduation from an accredited college of veterinary medicine or equivalent experience). The application deadline is September 30, 2026 , or until a suitable candidate is identified.
