Removal Defense Associate Immigration Attorney
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid/Remote)
About the Opportunity
A growing immigration law firm is seeking an experienced Removal Defense Associate Attorney to join its team. This position is ideal for an attorney who is confident in Immigration Court, enjoys direct client interaction, and can independently manage hearings while collaborating with an experienced legal support team.
The practice focuses on humanitarian and complex immigration matters, including removal defense, asylum, VAWA, U visas, T visas, waivers, adjustment of status, and other immigration relief.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients before the Immigration Court, including:
Master Calendar Hearings
Individual (Merits) Hearings
Bond Hearings
Prepare and argue motions, including:
Motions to Terminate
Motions to Suppress
Motions to Reopen
Motions to Stay Removal
Prepare and litigate applications for:
Asylum
Withholding of Removal
Convention Against Torture (CAT)
Cancellation of Removal (LPR & Non-LPR)
NACARA
Adjustment of Status
Represent clients at USCIS interviews, including Adjustment of Status, I-751, and VAWA-related matters
Develop case strategies and provide legal guidance to clients
Work closely with paralegals and legal support staff to ensure timely and accurate filings
Maintain organized case management and meet filing deadlines
Travel occasionally for court hearings or USCIS interviews as needed
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction (Texas license preferred but not required)
3-5+ years of removal defense experience
Experience appearing before Immigration Judges
Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to independently manage multiple cases and deadlines
Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required
