Medical Malpractice Associate or Partner | Raleigh, NC | $135,000 to $240,000
You learn more about a law firm from who stays than from anything on its website.
At this one, people hardly ever leave.
- I’m Clark Pollins at Distinct Recruitment, hiring a medical malpractice defense attorney for a national firm’s Raleigh office.
- I can tell you what it’s really like inside before you commit to anything.
Why low turnover should matter to you
- Lawyers don’t stay somewhere for years out of politeness. They stay because the work keeps them interested and the people are worth learning from.
- The partner who shows you how to take apart a plaintiff’s expert this year will still be down the hall in five years.
- The team you join is the team you keep. You won’t be retraining a new supervising attorney every eighteen months.
- Openings here are rare. That’s the flip side of nobody leaving.
The work
- Defending hospital systems, physicians and their carriers in claims where the standard of care is the whole case.
- Med mal is one of the few practices where cases still regularly reach a jury. When the care was right, defending it in court is the job.
- Heavy on experts, heavy on detail. You’ll learn the medicine well enough to cross examine a physician on it.
- A billable target of 1,800 hours.
- The firm works hybrid. You and the team agree how your week splits.
- A national platform, with a Raleigh team small enough that you’ll know everyone’s name.
If you’re bringing a book
- A national firm behind your Raleigh clients means the bench depth to say yes to bigger matters.
Why the range is wide
- The firm is hiring across two levels.
- If you’re a couple of years in and building your deposition and motion practice, you’ll come in toward $135,000.
- If you’ve already taken med mal files through to trial, handled experts on your own and have a portable book of business, you’d be looking at the upper end, up to $240,000, with a partner title to match.
What you bring
- 2+ years of litigation experience.
- Licensed in North Carolina.
- Trial or trial preparation experience is a strong plus.
- Medical malpractice experience is ideal.
If your background is close but not a perfect match, call me anyway. I’d rather have the conversation.
