Title: IP Life Sciences Attorney (Biologics & Pharma, Associate to Partner)

Location: NYC or Washington, D.C.

Salary: $350,000+ (above market)

Created by Big Law-trained practice leaders, and recognised by the likes of Legal500/Chambers, I’m working with a highly regarded litigation boutique that’s looking to add a life sciences patent attorney to its growing IP practice.

The Firm

The firm is best known for one of the leading antitrust practices in the US. IP and litigation are now their main growth areas, and the plan is to build both to the same standing.

They’ve grown steadily and conservatively, with no layoffs, and aim to nearly double in size over the next five years.

The culture is collaborative and team-oriented, with little hierarchy and few committees. Matters are regularly staffed across offices, and teams are lean, so attorneys take on meaningful responsibility early.

  • 25+ full-time IP litigators, 300+ patent litigations handled over the past decade
  • Over half the IP team hold advanced technical degrees or have in-house experience
  • Recognized for its work where antitrust and IP intersect
  • A light conflicts base, which suits attorneys with existing or developing client relationships

The Role

You’ll join the life sciences IP team, advising pharmaceutical and biotech clients across the biologics and biosimilars lifecycle, from early development through litigation.

The work combines strategic counseling with high-stakes disputes, where your science background will directly shape case and IP strategy.

  • Patent strategy for biologics and biosimilars, including counseling R&D teams as they develop products around third-party patents
  • Freedom-to-operate, non-infringement and validity opinions, backed by technical and prior art analysis
  • Hatch-Waxman and BPCIA litigation in district court, PTAB proceedings and Federal Circuit appeals
  • Technical support on life sciences transactions, including due diligence
  • Direct partner contact and early ownership of key case workstreams

About You

  • Associate through to partner level, including technical specialists and patent agents
  • A Ph.D. is preferred, and an advanced degree is required, in a field such as cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioengineering or pharmacology
  • Hands-on biologics experience and the ability to translate science into IP strategy
  • Patent litigation, opinion or prosecution experience gained at a well-regarded firm, the USPTO or in industry
  • Partners and teams with portable business are welcome to apply

The Package

  • Lockstep base salary (above market at every class year)
  • Competitive bonuses paid twice a year
  • A 2,000-hour target, with credit for pro bono and firm citizenship work
  • Associates are credited for bringing in work

We can discuss full compensation details and the firm’s identity confidentially over the phone.

If you’re a life sciences patent attorney considering your next move, I’d be happy to arrange a confidential conversation.
