Associate Attorney - Construction Defect & Civil Litigation

We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our litigation team focused on construction defect litigation matters. The successful candidate will manage an active caseload, represent clients in court and alternative dispute resolution, and provide strategic legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction-related disputes. This role requires strong litigation skills, knowledge of construction law, and the ability to produce high-quality legal work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage an active caseload of construction defect matters from intake through resolution, including pre-suit investigation, pleadings, discovery, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, briefs, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, settlement agreements, and mediation briefs.
  • Conduct factual and legal research and prepare persuasive memoranda and courtroom filings using up-to-date case law and statutory authority.
  • Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses for testimony, and handle evidentiary hearings and trials as needed.
  • Lead and coordinate discovery, including written discovery, e-discovery collection and review, subpoenas, expert disclosures, and document production.
  • Develop case strategy and settlement recommendations in collaboration with partners and clients; negotiate settlements and participate in mediations and ADR processes.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and consultants to manage expectations, provide case updates, and drive case progress.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff; review work product for accuracy, compliance, and quality.
  • Manage case budgets, track billable time, prepare status reports, and ensure timely case milestones and court deadlines are met.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards, including compliance with court rules, confidentiality obligations, and firm policies.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the state bar (required).
  • Civil litigation experience, with a significant focus on construction defect matters preferred.
  • Proven courtroom experience including depositions, motion practice, evidentiary hearings, and trial support or trial experience.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills; ability to draft persuasive pleadings, motions, and client correspondence.
  • Solid knowledge of construction law, construction defect claims, contract interpretation, building codes, and relevant statutes of limitations and procedural rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a heavy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with e-discovery platforms, document management systems, and litigation support tools; proficiency in legal research platforms (Westlaw, Lexis, etc.).
  • Excellent client relations, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; comfort interacting with owners, insurers, contractors, and expert witnesses.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to travel to court appearances, depositions, mediations, and jobsite visits as required.
