State Compensation Insurance Fund Claims Legal Department is hiring multiple Attorney and Attorney III positions. Attorneys will be placed where they're needed most, providing vital support and coverage across our legal team. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you'll work throughout California, handle sensitive workers' compensation matters, and make both virtual and in-person appearances statewide. Travel may be part of your role.

Under the leadership of our Assistant Chief Counsel, you will:

  • Collaborate with clients, draft legal documents, conduct discovery, make appearances, and negotiate settlements.
  • Tackle challenging workers' compensation assignments in various venues, appearing virtually and in person across California.
  • Make appearances and litigate in multiple varied venues of the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.
  • Engage in special projects, provide training, or manage consolidated litigation involving multiple parties and issues.

Who We're Looking For:

Attorneys who are licensed to practice law in California. While prior experience can be an advantage, it's not a requirement. Newly admitted attorneys are highly encouraged to join our team. We value diversity and inclusion, and welcome candidates from all backgrounds.

  • Persuasive and concise legal writing and research abilities.
  • Understanding of medical reports and experience with depositions.
  • Professional communication and negotiation skills with employers and claims staff.
  • Ability to manage an active caseload, including complex liens.
  • Independence, collaboration, and the ability to work well with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and a drive to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to appear in person at any office location as needed.
