Felony Prosecutor
Under general direction, prosecutes felony offenses for Hays County. Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official.
Responsibilities include prosecuting felony and misdemeanor crimes, handling assigned cases from intake through appeal, planning casework, conducting arraignment proceedings, reviewing physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, preparing trial exhibits, filing motions and briefs, negotiating pleas, selecting juries, preparing jury arguments for verdicts and sentences, and trying cases. Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or experience required includes a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law and at least three (3) years' experience working as a licensed attorney. Capable of handling cases and matters that are the least complex and that may result in the least serious consequences without supervision, and cases and matters that are moderately complex and that may result in moderately serious consequences with supervision.
Other qualifications, certificates, licenses, registrations include a license to practice law in the State of Texas and a valid Texas driver's license.
