Attorney

Attorney responsible for providing agency legal services and advice, including litigation support; interpretation of federal and state laws and regulations; and reviewing and drafting agency procurement documents, leases, contracts, standard operating procedures, administrative procedures, and other documents. The attorney will work closely with General Counsel and other attorneys researching, analyzing, interpreting, and applying state, federal, and agency legal requirements; assisting with litigation when requested; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; performing legal research; and preparing and reviewing legal documents applicable to the work of the Department of Transportation.

What you'll need to be successful: To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and legal research skills. The candidate should demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively to provide practical legal guidance in support of the Department's mission. Applicant must have strong written and oral communication skills; the ability to analyze complex issues; skill and experience working collaboratively and productively with others; organizational skills; professional judgment; and personal initiative. Preferred qualifications: Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association. Agency preferred qualifications: The preferred candidate must be an active member of the Mississippi Bar Association and have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a licensed attorney. Experience providing legal services within the Mississippi state government is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in property law and Mississippi State Purchasing Law.
