I'm working with an established New York law firm that's looking to add an attorney to its growing Insurance Coverage practice in Garden City.

It's a good opportunity for someone who enjoys complex insurance work, wants more responsibility over their cases and is looking for a firm where there's room to develop without getting lost in a huge team.

The Firm & Opportunity

The firm has a well-established insurance practice, representing insurer clients in a range of coverage disputes and litigation matters.

The team is continuing to grow and is looking for an attorney who can come in, work closely with the partners and take on a good level of responsibility from the outset.

There's a mix of coverage advice, litigation and direct client contact, so you won't be limited to one particular aspect of the work.

One thing worth mentioning is that you don't necessarily need to come from a pure insurance coverage background.

The firm is also interested in attorneys with insurance defense or insurance litigation experience who would like to move further into coverage work. If you've got a solid litigation background and a good understanding of insurance matters, it's certainly worth a conversation.

What You'll Be Doing

The role will involve a mixture of insurance coverage advice and litigation, including:

• Advising insurers on coverage issues and policy interpretation
• Handling coverage disputes from the early stages through to resolution
• Drafting motions, pleadings, briefs and coverage opinions
• Representing clients in state and federal courts
• Working with partners on litigation strategy and more complex matters
• Dealing directly with insurer clients and developing those relationships over time

You'll have support from experienced partners, but the firm also wants someone who's comfortable taking ownership of their work rather than needing to be supervised at every stage.

What They're Looking For

The firm is ideally looking for an attorney with around 2–8 years of experience in insurance coverage, insurance defense, insurance litigation or a related practice area.

You'll need to be admitted to the New York Bar and have strong legal research, writing and litigation skills.

Previous coverage experience would obviously be useful, but it isn't an absolute requirement.

They're happy to consider attorneys coming from the defense side who have an interest in developing their coverage experience.
