The New York State Attorney General's Environmental Protection Bureau seeks an experienced litigator for its New York City office to represent the state in environmental, public health, and energy matters in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings. The role focuses primarily on defensive litigation protecting New York's environmental laws and defending state agencies, while also participating in affirmative litigation and investigations to enforce environmental statutes. This position offers an opportunity for litigators to transition into environmental justice and environmental litigation practice within a collegial team committed to protecting New Yorkers' rights to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.
Key qualifications
- At least five years of complex civil litigation practice required
- Experience litigating in federal and/or state courts, including brief writing, document review, depositions, court appearances, and settlement negotiations
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills with ability to complete quality assignments in short timeframes
- Strong oral advocacy skills and comfort arguing before a court
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
- Must be admitted to practice law in New York State and a U.S. citizen
