Insurance Coverage Attorney – Chicago - Up to $185,000 | Hybrid | First-Party Property / Coverage Litigation

A national insurance-defense litigation firm is growing its Chicago coverage team and is looking for an attorney to handle sophisticated first-party property coverage matters from initial claim analysis through litigation and resolution. The underlying firm has a dedicated insurance-defense platform, including established first- and third-party coverage practices.

• Specialist insurance platform – work alongside attorneys whose practices are genuinely focused on coverage and insurer-side litigation.
• Complex, high-value matters – exposure to significant commercial property losses, catastrophic claims and complex coverage disputes. The firm's first-party practice publicly describes handling major domestic and international property claims across a wide range of industries.
• Build real coverage expertise – develop experience across policy interpretation, coverage opinions, EUOs, depositions, motions, mediations and litigation strategy.
• Hands-on responsibility – take matters from pre-suit investigation and analysis through active litigation and resolution.
• Long-term progression – strong opportunity for an ambitious attorney looking to develop within a specialist practice.
• Hybrid working – approximately 3 days per week in the Chicago office

The role

You’ll work on sophisticated first-party property and insurance coverage matters, including:

• Policy analysis and coverage opinions
• First-party property disputes
• Claim investigations and pre-suit strategy
• Examinations under oath (EUOs)
• Pleadings and dispositive motions
• Written discovery
• Depositions
• Mediations and settlement negotiations
• Coverage litigation from inception through resolution

What they’re looking for

• 2+ years of insurance coverage experience preferred, although there is flexibility for the right attorney
• First- or third-party property coverage experience
• Illinois Bar admission
• Experience analysing insurance policies and providing coverage advice
• Litigation experience involving pleadings, motions and depositions
• EUO and mediation experience is advantageous
• Strong written advocacy and the ability to manage matters with increasing independence
• Compensation & working arrangement

• Salary: $110,000–$185,000, dependent on experience
• Location: Chicago
• Schedule: Hybrid – approximately 3 days in office
• Practice: 100% defense-side insurance litigation
