Position Summary - Do you love discussing goals and possibilities with prospective student-athletes? Do you enjoy problem solving and working in a collaborative team setting? If so, Roosevelt University is seeking an Athletic Admission Counselor who will help us to identify and recruit the next class of Roosevelt Lakers. Roosevelt University has a social justice foundation, and our admissions team strives towards equity and creating access for students of all backgrounds.This position reports to the Director of First-Year Admission. This is a full-time, hybrid position based at our Chicago campus with the expectation that the Counselor will be on campus 3 days per week depending on the time of year.

The Athletic Admission Counselor's primary responsibility is to guide first-year and transfer student athletes and families through the application and enrollment process, which includes meeting with prospective student athletes, families and school partners to assess academic eligibility, discuss academic offerings and inform individuals of the Roosevelt student experience. The Athletic Admission Counselor will work closely with the athletic division and attend all coaches/athletics meetings along with regular admission and enrollment management meetings. The individual will work directly with coaches on official prospective student athlete visits and events and facilitate follow ups with recruits to apply for admission.

The Athletic Admission Counselor will also serve as an initial point of contact for post-admission processes to support other offices such as Financial Aid Services, Academic Advising, or other student support services offices.

Physical Requirements: ability to walk, stand for periods of time, carry materials and supplies for events and college fairs, some moderate pushing and pulling may be required from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required - A bachelor's degree in relevant field. A minimum of 1-year experience working in admission, higher ed or NCAA/Athletics experience. Knowledge of NCAA admission process/protocols and athletics recruitment at the university level. Ability to manage relationships both externally and within Roosevelt University. Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion when working with prospective students, family and school partners. Self-starter and ability to prioritize independently. Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail. A positive and professional demeanor. Experience with database systems like a CRM (Slate) or SIS to input and access individualized and general information related to recruitment and enrollment. Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Valid driver's license and/or means to travel for recruitment.

Working Conditions - Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. There is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Ability to walk around and stand for periods of time, and carry materials and supplies for events and college fairs. Some moderate pushing and pulling may be required from time to time.

Essential Job Functions

Duty and Responsibility - Athlete Recruitment Management Manages a student athlete recruitment from inquiry to matriculation. Participates and/or assists with on-campus recruitment events and visit opportunities including weekend and evening hours. Helps coordinate official visits with coaches and facilitates follow ups with recruits to apply. Understands and promotes academic programs that contribute to the value and mission of Roosevelt University. Understands the needs of student athletes and guides them through questions and concerns. Conducts outreach by email, phone or virtually with students, parents and school partners.

Duty and Responsibility - Relationship Building Counsels prospective recruits on the admission and athletic recruitment process and opportunities at the University. Provides one-on-one and group admissions counseling to student athletic recruits – admission counseling occurs primarily by in-person or virtual appointments, phone calls and email.

Duty and Responsibility - Application Management Manages the applicant pool for varsity student athletes. Uses CRM (Slate), outreach and other tools to facilitate application completion. Thoroughly reviews student credentials in making admission decisions using guidelines provided by the University. Student-athletes are admitted following the same criteria as non-student athletes.

Duty and Responsibility - Student Guidance: Guides student athletes through the enrollment process, from inquiry or application through matriculation. Provides guidance and pre-advising to prospective student athletes to determine admissibility, appropriate program, location, and resources. Informs student athletes of the various offerings and opportunities available while considering students' abilities and needs to be successful. Assists student athletes with accessing and understanding general post-admission information and processes like financial aid, residence life, academic advising and student support services.
