Job Summary

Assists in the management of the daily operations in the liquor department. Acts as team leader when the department manager is absent and performs all managerial tasks accordingly. Supports an inclusive environment by valuing diversity and embracing the backgrounds and experiences of the team. This working management position requires a balance of physical labor, delegation, team building and leadership, planning, and administrative work.

Responsibilities

Service (60%)

Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated to increase customer confidence and loyalty. Ensures the department is merchandised per plan and maintained in in‑stock conditions. Delivers daily conditions that meet the company’s expectations for freshness, quality and value. Trains department associates on inventory/stocking and computer‑assisted ordering. Offers assistance in finding or suggesting product selection.

Leadership (20%)

Promotes trust and respect among associates by collaborating, fostering teamwork, and communicating company, department, and job‑specific information. Establishes goals for merchandising, sales and profit and empowers the team to meet or exceed them. Manages schedules to ensure tasks are completed in a cadence that ensures the highest levels of customer service, especially during peak hours. Adheres to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.

Financial (10%)

Completes daily and weekly administrative tasks including communications, online training, scheduling, pricing changes, orders and receiving products. Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and reports discrepancies. Reviews and inspects products for quality and freshness and takes appropriate action. Assists in the planning and organization of the inventory process. Ensures product is held at the proper temperature per food safety guidelines and retains documentation of temperature logs per policy.

Compliance/Safety (10%)

Ensures company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained. Adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to food safety, USDA & COl, and Department of Agriculture. Executes all product recalls and withdrawals in a timely manner. Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures, inspecting and identifying unsafe conditions to report to store management. Notifies management of customer or employee accidents, safety risks and any illegal activity. Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and regulations. Cultivates a culture of safety within the store. Ensures personal protective equipment is available and utilized by all associates executing tasks in the department. Ensures equipment is in good repair and reports hazards for remediation.

Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education : High School / GED

Preferred Education : None specified

Relevant Experience : 0–3 years supervisory experience minimum

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain the same
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Proficiency with computer applications used in operating the department effectively

Environmental Factors

Retail – General Heavy. Physical demands include standing, walking, using manual dexterity, repetitive movements, reaching, carrying, pushing, lifting up to indicated weights, occasional climbing, exposure to indoor and outdoor, cold, heated, and wet/humid conditions. Safety risks include twisting, slippery surfaces, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, skin irritants, fumes and sprays, cleaning solutions and other toxins. Required equipment includes cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, material handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes baler/compactor, box cutter. Personal protective equipment: goggles, gloves, back brace. Lifting requirement: 250 lbs for pulling and 50 lbs for lifting.

None required.

Shift(s)

Varied shifts, including three (3) to four (4) evening (prime time) shifts each week.
