Introduction

Our client is a hospital providing care for cats and dogs and is seeking a full-time or part-time Associate Veterinarian with a prominent surgical caseload to join their team in Newark, New Jersey. This opportunity is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys combining a surgery-focused caseload with primary care appointments in a collaborative small animal practice.

Role Description and Responsibilities

The Associate Veterinarian will manage a predominantly surgical caseload while also providing routine outpatient appointments. Clinical responsibilities include soft-tissue surgery, reproductive procedures, artificial inseminations, spays and neuters, wellness examinations, preventative care, sick pet appointments, diagnostics, chronic disease management, dermatology, pain management, and client education. Candidates must be comfortable performing soft-tissue and reproductive surgeries while delivering high-quality medical care across a varied primary care caseload. Appointment lengths are typically 30 minutes, allowing time for thorough patient assessments and client communication. Flexible scheduling is available, with a full-time position being four or five days a week, with the option for no weekends. Part-time would be three days per week.

Practice Details

This small animal practice provides comprehensive veterinary care for cats and dogs with a broad general practice caseload. Equipment includes ultrasound, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, in-house laboratory facilities, electronic medical records, and USDA certification for international and domestic travel documentation. The hospital currently has two examination rooms with a third in development. Services offered include sick pet visits, puppy and kitten care, preventative care, wellness examinations, annual check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention, microchipping, dental cleaning, deworming, heartworm treatment, nutrition and weight management, bloodwork and diagnostics, faecal testing, ultrasound, dermatology, allergy management, hospitalisation, eye care, pain management, and chronic disease management including thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma, Cushing's disease, and Addison's disease. The practice offers a varied caseload with a strong emphasis on surgery alongside primary care medicine.

Team

The hospital is currently staffed by 1 DVM and supported by a technician-to-doctor ratio of approximately 1.5:1. The team works collaboratively to provide efficient patient care while supporting a busy surgical and medical caseload.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
