Privately owned small animal clinic seeking a DVM to join their close-knit team!

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinarian to join an independently owned, established small animal veterinary practice in Hamden, CT. The practice provides high-quality, individualized medical care to dogs, cats, and avian patients.

As a privately owned hospital, the clinic is able to focus entirely on patient care - not corporate quotas or production pressures. Their team is committed to practicing thoughtful, relationship-based medicine in a welcoming, low-stress environment for both pets and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough physical examinations, develop diagnoses, and implement treatment plans for a wide range of medical, surgical, and dental conditions.
  • Provide preventive wellness care, including vaccinations, routine check-ups, and age‑specific health guidance.
  • Perform surgical procedures such as spay/neuter, soft tissue surgeries, and other medically indicated operations.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and laboratory results to inform patient care decisions.
  • Offer counseling and education to pet owners to support home care, nutrition, and behavioral health.
  • Provide specialized therapies (e.g., rehabilitation, laser therapy) as appropriate.
  • Deliver compassionate end‑of‑life care, including counseling and humane euthanasia when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with veterinary medicine standards.

Practice Values

  • Deliver individualized care tailored to each pet’s unique needs and lifestyle.
  • Treat clients and patients with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Promote a low‑stress and welcoming environment for animals and owners alike.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid veterinary license in the state of Connecticut (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Strong clinical judgment and commitment to evidence‑based medicine.
  • Excellent communication skills with both team members and pet owners.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Busy, patient‑focused small animal practice providing a variety of services, including preventive care, diagnostics, surgery, dental care, and avian services.
  • Supportive clinical team dedicated to quality care and client education.
