The selected candidate for our Complex Litigation Associate role shall work remotely in partnership with our Senior Attorneys to support our largest and most complex general liability files.
Our Associate Attorney will support motions, briefs, depositions and onsite appearances jointly with our Complex Litigation Attorney Staff throughout Illinois. Specific focus on cases will be within the northeast region of the state. The Claims Staff Legal team is highly-committed to personal growth! If you have a passion for the law and enjoy collaborating with peers, Claims Partners and insureds, we want to speak with you!Responsibilities:Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clientsPrepare pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with supervisionProvide effective and timely communication, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issuesCommunicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office proceduresAccountable for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned tasksIndependently prepare and present witnesses evidence at: trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutionsAttend CLE seminars as neededQualifications:Minimum of 1 year of legal experience is preferred however, we will consider recent graduates that have recently passed the Illinois State Bar ExamJuris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of IllinoisFunctional understanding of claims and litigation is preferredFamiliarity with the tripartite relationship is a plus!Commitment to providing a high level of customer servicePositive minded and collaborative team-player attitudeExcellent legal research and writing skillsStrong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)Effective communicator with strong negotiation skillsAbility to think strategically and desire to be challengedPositive minded and collaborative team-player attitudeThe selected candidate shall travel within the assigned jurisdiction for required court appearances and ad hoc in-office yearly meetings.For full-time, occasional, part-time or remote positions: (1) high speed broadband internet service is required, we do not recommend or support DSL, wireless, Wifi, Hotspots, Fiber without a modem and Satellite; (2) Internet provider supplied modem/router/gateway is hardwired to the Hartford issued computer with an ethernet cable; and (3) minimum upload/download speeds of 5Mbps/30Mbps will be required.

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
