BASIC FUNCTION:An Associate Scientist independently works on tasks in work packages of R&D activities and can independently perform scientific literature research in fields related to the current work. They also keep themselves up to date with the latest scientific methods and competencies and can contribute under guidance to scientific publications, patents, and other forms of communication. They provide day-to-day laboratory leadership for lab technicians.RESPONSIBILITIES:With guidance mainly received from stakeholders and superiors, able to clearly define problems and routinely conducts literature reviews prior to tackling new projects or technologiesSuggests new ideas to solve problems and make innovative contributionsEffectively applies to the scientific method or engineering design process and statistics in the solution to problems in their technical developmentBuilding competency on incorporation of information from outside of team, department and company to develop relevant solutionsLaboratory day to day leadership of techniciansCan lead a small technical sub-team of a larger well-defined projectProactively seeks support and mentoringCommunicates clearly and effectively in a timely manner and verbal and written formats to varied, mostly internal, technical audiencesUnderstands the alignment of work package goals with the project and uses it to define appropriate tasksProject oriented looking at some significant advancementsDemonstrates technical competency by developing value-creating solutions when presented with problems of defined scope and impactAble to act as information resource on Team focus topics for stakeholders and other members of technical communityUses Omya IP processes for protecting valueInternal reports and documents of quality to be used in IDF’s and patentsConducts patent searches and understands trends and technical needsConsistently demonstrates the highest SHE standards and lives by the Omya valuesIntervenes when inappropriate behavior is exhibitedExposed to and pursuing Omya leadership attributesMay have role in coordinating ISO or safety activities for team or R&D departmentOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, material science, polymer science or similar.Minimum of 1 – 8 years’ technical experience and demonstrated knowledge in field and a willingness to do practical laboratory work. Effectively applies the scientific method or engineering design process and statistics in the solution to problems and their technical development. Basic project management skills.Good command of both oral and written English is required. Occasional travel may be required.Must possess current US employment authorization; sponsorship not available for this position.
