Senior Field Clinician

The Bureau of Technical Support (BTS) is a developing unit within the OPWDD Division of Statewide Services, established to improve the health and safety of people with developmental disabilities. The BTS accomplishes this by providing consultation, training, and professional resources to voluntary providers/programs to increase their capacity to safely and effectively serve people who have complex behavioral needs, connect them with vital community resources, and navigate system complexities that may have been impeding service provision.

The Senior Field Clinician will join a statewide team of clinicians to provide a full range of consultation services. The Senior Field Clinician will be responsible for their field team's coordinated review and delivery of technical assistance using evidence-informed best practices, a trauma-informed and responsive approach, and commitment to cultural humility, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist and through duties including but not limited to:

  • Supporting voluntary providers/programs to prevent imminent crisis through provision of case consultation, professional mentorship, training, and program monitoring.
  • Assisting voluntary providers in their development of individualized and agency-wide strategies by synthesizing information from a variety of sources to identify a case conceptualization, root cause(s), and available resources in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Conducting on-site observations and engagement as indicated and directed, to enable effective consultation.
  • Drafting consultation reports to include formal recommendations, referrals, and treatment alternatives.
  • Development and delivery of training on clinically relevant topics.
  • Preparing written reports and other written documentation as assigned.
  • Providing administrative supervision to other field team specialists.
  • Participating in committees and work groups.
  • Travel as assigned to complete on-site observations, attend meetings, and to support bureau operations. Travel percentage is an estimated average of 60% or more; actual travel time may vary to support the needs of the bureau and division.
  • Other duties as assigned to support bureau and divisional operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

This position requires direct experience supporting people with developmental disabilities who present with complex behaviors and co-occurring mental health diagnoses. The Senior Field Clinician will be expected to understand federal and state regulations and policies that guide delivery of services, to ensure recommendations offered to voluntary providers are not only consistent with clinical best practice standards but also inclusive of regulatory requirements. Experience conducting, developing, writing, and/or reviewing clinical assessments and treatment plans, expertise in progress monitoring and data analysis, knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention strategies, and familiarity with community-based service settings is preferred.
