About the City College of New York Philosophy Department

The Philosophy Department has nine full-time faculty members, 100 majors and 60 minors, an active Philosophy Club, and frequent departmental events, including the Philosophy Pizza Forum.

Position Details

The Department of Philosophy at The City College of New York (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for the Arthur Zitrin Professorship in Bioethics, an endowed position to be filled at the rank of Associate Professor, anticipated to begin in Fall 2027. The position will involve research, undergraduate teaching at the introductory level and in the applicant’s areas of expertise, and departmental service. The Zitrin Professorship will provide support of $10,000-$40,000 in addition to the salary range specified below, depending on experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in Philosophy. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of excellence in research, teaching, and departmental service.
  • Preferred but not required: experience in administering programs for students, such as internships, and/or experience with grants that could support such programs.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $94,017 - $113,745

The Zitrin Professorship will provide support of $10,000-$40,000 in addition to the salary range, depending on experience and qualifications.
