Position title: Associate Instructor

Percent time: 25.00% to 50.00%

Salary range: Salary Point 6 of $85,898 – see Table 19 for full range.

Appointment: Not more than 50% time during Fall & Spring semesters.

Position Description

Associate Instructors will teach lower‑ and upper‑division courses in Philosophy for Academic Year 2026‑2027.

Responsibilities: grading, attending lectures, leading discussion sections (when appropriate), and holding office hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the subject area or a related field.
• Maintenance of a qualifying GPA.
• Academically eligible to hold the appointment (per UC Merced's Graduate Policies and Procedures Handbook).
• Registered as a UC Merced graduate student in full‑time residence: registered for 12 units per term during the appointment period; for summer appointment registered in 12 units in the previous term; incoming students for summer appointment have submitted the Statement of Intent to Register.
• Passed an Oral English Proficiency Examination (if applicable).
• One year of Teaching Assistant experience.
