Overview
The Associate General Counsel will provide legal counsel to key leadership within Melaleuca, focusing on Privacy, Litigation, and Transactional law. The role engages with business clients to understand strategic objectives, collaborates with internal partners, works independently on high‑significance matters, and leads efforts to resolve sophisticated issues. The AGC supervises one other attorney.
Responsibilities
- Provide clear, practical, and actionable privacy advice to enable business strategies and efforts across the enterprise.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with teams and stakeholders throughout the enterprise.
- Partner with and become a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the enterprise, including with senior leaders within and outside of the Legal Department.
- Identify and lead existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the role.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, supervised, and controlled.
- Follow written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
- Independently provide legal counsel to senior leadership to support business objectives and lead regulatory, compliance and litigation risk to Melaleuca.
- Lead sophisticated legal assignments with a high level of business impact and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Effectively communicate with partners and varying levels of leadership in both verbal and written forms.
- Produce clear and concise legal positions involving highly complex issues.
- Proactively analyze changes in laws, regulations, and industry, and advise appropriate organizational leadership of such changes in a timely manner.
- Anticipate potential or future legal and operational issues that present risk to the organization and proactively engage with others to identify potential solutions.
- Provide leadership through cross‑functional projects that have a material impact on Melaleuca.
- Effectively lead outside counsel to acquire legal advice.
- Coordinate with the General Counsel on periodic reporting on results, budgets, forecasts, exposure analysis, and strategies to the Management Team, as well as evaluate legal strategies, expenses and reserves with the Company’s independent auditors, risk managers, and business unit leaders.
- Draft and negotiate contracts to memorialize these deals.
Qualifications
- Ability to relocate to Idaho Falls, ID and work in‑person 5 days a week (relocation assistance provided).
- 6+ years of experience as a lawyer at a top‑tier law firm or in‑house legal department.
- Excellent time management, analysis, and advising skills.
- Ability to succinctly summarize recommendations and tailor communications by audience.
- Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts.
- Ability to provide practical, business‑focused legal advice to internal stakeholders on contractual, regulatory, and general corporate legal matters.
- Ability to identify and assess legal risks, propose mitigation strategies, and support cross‑functional teams in resolving legal issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with existing and emerging technology and e‑commerce preferred (but not required).
- Knowledge of privacy laws and experience identifying, analyzing and advising on privacy risk preferred (but not required).
