Associate/Full Professor of Surgery — Burn Unit Medical Director
Department of Surgery, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The position is full‑time, academic, at the associate or full professor level, and the successful candidate will serve as the Burn Unit Medical Director.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership in burn surgery and oversee the multidisciplinary burn program.
- Act as the principal liaison for strategic planning and operational coordination with St. Francis Memorial Hospital and UCSF Department of Surgery leadership.
- Ensure quality of burn care meets or exceeds American Burn Association (ABA) verification standards and reflects UCSF’s role as the sole provider of comprehensive burn care for San Francisco.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with emergency medical services and community hospitals for timely evaluation, transfer, and care of critically ill burn patients.
- Participate in regional disaster planning and mass casualty preparedness.
- Work with the Burn Program Manager to maintain ABA verification status.
- Contribute to institutional policies and protocols to enhance quality and cost‑effectiveness of burn care.
- Educate surgery residents, medical students, and other trainees as an active participant in UCSF residency and fellowship programs.
Qualifications
- Board‑certified by the American Board of Surgery or American Board of Plastic Surgery.
- Fellow in good standing of the American College of Surgeons.
- Documented experience working in an ABA‑verified burn center and/or demonstrated leadership within a burn care system.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Record of scholarly activity in burn surgery preferred.
- Additional training or experience in surgical critical care or plastic and reconstructive surgery is desirable.
Compensation
Minimum base salary range: $190,600 – $405,900, based on UC salary scales. The position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, providing eligibility for additional compensation.
