Associate Director of Student Leadership and Service

The Associate Director of Student Leadership and Serviceprovides leadership, coordination, and advising for studentleadership development, service initiatives, civic engagement,student governance support, and community-based leadershipprograms. This position serves as a bridge between the Center forCommunity Engagement and the Office of Student Leadership andInvolvement, ensuring that students experience a coordinated andmeaningful leadership pathway through service, involvement,governance, and civic engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:

Journey Leadership Program and Service-Centered Leadership Development

Coordinate the day-to-day administration, planning, implementation,and assessment of the Journey Leadership Program under thestrategic direction of the Director of the Center for CommunityEngagement. Develop and implement leadership developmentexperiences rooted in involvement, service, global thinking, civicengagement, and experiential learning. This includes supportingcurriculum development, student recruitment, participantcommunication, leadership workshops, reflection activities, programlogistics, and program assessment. Ensure that Journey participantsare connected to meaningful opportunities for service, civicengagement, community partnership, and leadership growth.
In conjunction with other CCE staff, will provide support for theAlternative Breaks (AB)/International programs. This includesbreaks that take place during winter break and spring break. Thisincludes assisting with logistical coordination of the alternativebreaks including site selection, partner coordination, studentleader training, risk management, travel logistics, reflectionactivities, and budget management. This also includes developingand leading fundraising efforts in collaboration with UniversityAdvancement and other departments to support student participationin service-based travel programs such as AB.

Student Government Association and Campus Activities ProgramBoard Advising

Serve as the primary staff advisor to the Campus Activities ProgramBoard, providing leadership development, team building, mentorship,and programming support to executive and general board members.Attend board meetings and select evening and weekend events andaccompany students to NACA conferences as part of theirprofessional and leadership development.
Support the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement inadvising the Student Government Association, providing directguidance to officers, senators, committees, and other studentleaders. Assist with leadership development, officer transitions,elections, student advocacy, budget education, policyinterpretation, organizational effectiveness, and SGA-sponsoredservice and civic engagement initiatives.
Help student leaders strengthen responsible governance, ethical andinclusive decision-making, communication, and collaboration withUniversity departments. Provide support for student organizationrecognition, new organization formation, constitution review,funding processes, and compliance with University policies.

Supervision, Training, and Campus Partners

The Associate Director will assist in the supervision ofservice-learning student leaders, AB leaders, Journey studentleaders and student staff; provide training, support, andperformance evaluation. This may include co-supervising communityservice scholars and graduate fellows.
Develop and deliver trainings for student leaders, studentorganization officers, SGA leaders, service-based organizations,and student program planners. Training areas may include leadershipdevelopment, ethical service, event planning, risk management,inclusive leadership, community engagement, fiscal responsibility,conflict resolution, and transition planning.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to supportco-curricular leadership and service initiatives. Serve as aconnector between CCE, SLI, student organizations, SGA, and otherdepartments within Student Affairs and across the University.

Student Organization Service, Civic Engagement, and Community Impact Initiatives

Serve as a primary resource for student organizations interested inservice, volunteerism, philanthropy, advocacy, and communityimpact. Advise service-based student organizations and supportstudent leaders in developing ethical, sustainable, andwell-planned service opportunities.
Work closely with the Center for Community Engagement, StudentLeadership and Involvement, SGA, and other campus partners to planand execute annual service programs, including campus-wide servicedays and student-led service initiatives. Assist students withidentifying community partners, understanding risk managementexpectations, planning logistics, and reflecting on the impact oftheir service.

Assessment, Professional Development, and Other duties asassigned

Develop and implement assessment tools to measure student learning,program effectiveness, participation, satisfaction, leadershipgrowth, and community impact. Use data to improve the JourneyLeadership Program, service initiatives, student leadershiptrainings, and student governance support.
Participate in professional development opportunities, divisionalprograms, University committees, and Student Affairs initiatives.Assist with major campus events, including Admissions events,Family Weekend, Convocation, Commencement, Recognition Day,Leadership Awards, Orientation, and other programs as assigned.Perform other duties as assigned. Work evenings and weekends asnecessary.

Requirements/Qualification:

• Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, highereducation administration or related field is required.
• Three to five years’ experience working in higher education ora related field.
• Proven leadership and management skills working with diversecultures, backgrounds and identities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectivelywith students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience advising student organizations, student government,student leaders, service programs, civic engagement initiatives, orleadership development programs is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of student development theory,leadership development pedagogy, experiential learning, civicengagement, and/or service-learning.
• Experience supervising professional staff.
• Excellent oral and written skills, as well as listening andadvocacy skills.
• Ability to work with and refer individuals in a crisis.
• Understanding of philosophy, role, and purpose of aservice-learning program.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate a student developmentphilosophy within higher education.
• Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platformskills; including an ability to oversee a wide variety ofactivities.
• Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation,and assessment.
• Experience and proficiency in the use of technology to includePC use, desktop publishing, Microsoft Office suite, and internetuse.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends on-line, scheduled oron-call

The salary range for this role is $60,000–$75,000. SalaryTransparency
