The Center for Social Justice takes a curricular approach steeped in cultural humility and epistemic justice to the delivery of co-curricular programs and services.Reporting to the Director of Engaged Scholarship and Pedagogy, the Associate Director, Immersion and Community Engaged Learning plays a pivotal role in the CSJ's efforts to fulfill Georgetown's Jesuit mission broadly in the community engagement ecosystem, and CSJ's social justice mission in particular, through immersion learning experiences for students, faculty, and staff, community-engaged learning pedagogies for faculty and staff, support and/or management of academic initiatives; and oversight of the entire lifecycle of immersions, including off-site trips. This position ensures that there is consistent engagement at the CSJ and within the university with the preferred pedagogies of immersion and community-engaged learning, infused with critical reflection.The Associate Director accomplishes their charge as a lead collaborator with diverse campus departments, units, faculty, and academic leadership, who seek community-engaged and justice-centered partnerships. As a university-serving specialist in immersion and community-engaged learning, this position collaborates with colleagues to facilitate and expand community-engaged learning into educational efforts, programming, and courses.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Support faculty who seek to embed community-engaged learning objectives and components into their courses/programs, for example through course guest presentations.Act as a liaison on behalf of university members to broker respectful, mutual relationships with mission-aligned community organizations.Manage academic program logistics and curriculum coordination for the CSJ.Lead the CSJ's academic advising and program outreach efforts.Support approval processes and ensure compliance with University policies related to travel, protection of minors and vulnerable populations, and more.Assess program effectiveness and make data-driven improvements as needed.Support peer CSJ team members and participate in CSJ activities, supporting the building of the vision and capacity for this work's long-term strategy of embedding consistent community engagement opportunities for faculty and staff into the University ecosystem through building relationships across campus and with domestic and global community partners.The Associate Director, Immersion and Community Engaged Learning reports to and works most closely with this position's supervisor, CSJ's Director of Engaged Scholarship and Pedagogy. The Associate Director supervises a Graduate Intern and facilitates the work of roughly a dozen undergraduates who directly support this immersion and community engaged learning work. This position participates in and contributes to Center-wide initiatives, and is a representative of CSJ to the university, working with faculty and staff across the University. This position is a member of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) and engages in DSA opportunities as needed and appropriate. This position works regularly with external community-based partners, in Washington, DC and beyond.Requirements and qualifications:Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree highly preferredExceptional organizational and project management skills (including Excel and budgeting)5-7 years of professional experience serving within a mission-based organization and/or higher education institutionMinimum 2 years of experience collaborating with and supporting university faculty and staff in pedagogical and educational activities centered on community-engaged learning or academic program developmentMinimum 1 year of experience advising students and/or student groupsDemonstrated interest in leading immersion and learning trips and familiarity with content, logistical, and risk factorsDemonstrated ability to utilize proven outreach methods for transformative university engagement with diverse community partnersStrong interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community-partnersAdaptability and flexibility to navigate dynamic situations and respond to challengesExperience with budgeting, financial management, and/or grant managementPreferred qualifications:Understanding of national and global Jesuit educational mission and networksStrong knowledge of community based organizational landscape in the DMV or willingness to quickly learnExperience in community engagement or service-learning within a university, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizationDemonstrated ability to work flexible hoursWork mode designation:This position has been designated as Hybrid. This position balances hybrid work with hands-on immersion experiences requiring periodic travel. Availability outside standard business hours is essential for program implementation, student engagement, and faculty collaboration. This includes attending two week-long trips, currently scheduled for spring break and in May. Work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.Pay range: $44,022.00 - $73,406.80.
