Job Summary

In-house counsel role providing support across the Legal Department of a growing financial services company focused on insurance, retirement and investment management. The individual will initially focus on developing a deep knowledge of the company’s products, services and operations with a focus on managing claims, litigation and regulatory matters. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries
  • Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters
  • Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues
  • Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives
  • Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the life insurance industry (private practice or in-house)
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar
  • Experience or demonstrated Interest in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation required
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong work ethic coupled with a proactive growth mindset
  • Humble but not passive. Confident but not arrogant
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into practical guidance
  • Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, with a strong sense of ownership and professional judgment

The base salary for this position falls within Nassau’s salary band F: $100,000 + depending upon experience.
