Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.Position SummaryWe are seeking an Associate Controls Engineer who is passionate about pushing beyond the cutting edge of the industry to design, build, and debug best-in-class controls systems for Redwood's battery recycling operations. This engineer will play a critical role in designing, commissioning, scaling, and supporting all of Redwood's recycling facilities working at the intersection of chemical process engineering, industrial automation, and software development.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesigning and implementing real-time control software in C++ for embedded and industrial systemsDeveloping automation tools, diagnostics, and orchestration scripts in PythonWriting, optimizing, and troubleshooting Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) for PLCs and industrial controllersBuilding deterministic control loops, state machines, and safety-critical routinesIntegrating software with sensors, actuators, drives, and industrial communication networksTroubleshooting complex issues involving timing, concurrency, hardware interfaces, and industrial protocols on manufacturing systemsConducting root-cause analysis for field issues and implementing long-term fixesCollaborating with controls, electrical, and process teams to translate requirements into robust software designSkills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesBachelors degree in software, electrical, automation, or similar engineering degreeProficiency in modern C++ for real time or embedded systemsExperience with Python for automation, tooling, or data processingHands on experience writing Structured Text for PLCs or industrial controllersUnderstanding of deterministic execution, concurrency, and hardware software interactionExperience with industrial protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, or PROFINETProven ability to successfully work in a team environment to solve complex engineering problemsStrong debugging skills across software, hardware, and network layersExcellent communication and collaboration skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with motion control, robotics, or process automationFamiliarity with embedded Linux, RTOS environments, or microcontroller developmentKnowledge of industrial cybersecurity standards or best practicesExperience with simulation tools, digital twins, or hardware-in-the-loop testingBackground integrating C++ runtimes with PLC or SCADA systemsThe position is full-time.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
