Department: New BuildingLerch Bates is seeking a Associate Building Enclosure Consultant to join our Building Science team. This role is ideal for professionals looking to expand their expertise in building envelope consulting, enclosure design, and building enclosure commissioning (BECx) while developing into a fully independent Consultant role.As an Associate Consultant, you will support and manage projects involving new construction and major renovation work, collaborating with Senior Consultants and project teams to deliver technical solutions that improve building performance. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.Project Delivery & Technical DevelopmentSupport and participate in building envelope consulting and building enclosure commissioning (BECx) projects for new construction and major renovationsReview architectural drawings and enclosure details with emphasis on air, water, thermal, and vapor control systemsEvaluate building enclosure components including curtain walls, storefront systems, glazing systems, exterior wall assemblies, and waterproofing systemsParticipate in design review meetings and present technical observations and recommendationsDevelop technical knowledge through collaboration with Senior Consultants, Directors, and project teamsField & Project ResponsibilitiesParticipate in design, pre-construction, and construction phase meetingsLead or support pre-construction meetings focused on enclosure coordination and performance risksConduct quality assurance site observations and serve as a representative for Lerch Bates on project sitesPerform or assist with building envelope field testing including ASTM E783, ASTM E1105, AAMA 501.2, ASTM E779, and related testing proceduresDevelop a strong understanding of building enclosure installation sequencing and performance impactsSupport management of active projects to maintain quality, responsiveness, schedules, budgets, and client satisfactionClient Communication & Project CoordinationBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients and project teamsCommunicate project status, observations, risks, and recommendations proactivelySupport project tracking, documentation, scheduling, and reporting activitiesParticipate in project reviews and internal coordination meetingsIdentify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationshipsWhat You’ll Bring:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related discipline3–4 years of experience within architecture, engineering, construction, building science, or related industriesWorking knowledge of building envelope systems including roofing, waterproofing, exterior cladding, glazing systems, sealants, weather barriers, and air/water barriersUnderstanding of building enclosure installation sequencing and construction practicesStrong technical writing, communication, and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and changing deadlines in a fast-paced environmentStrong organization skills and attention to detailAbility to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environmentStrong client communication and relationship-building skillsIntermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and BluebeamExperience with AutoCAD and Revit preferredWhy Work with Lerch Bates?Competitive base salary of $73,000 - $88,000 per year, based on experience, qualifications, and locationAnnual performance-based bonus opportunity, with target incentive levels varying by position and based on individual and company performance.100% Employee-Owned ESOP (company-funded retirement benefit that allows eligible employees to share in the company's long-term success)Health, dental, and vision insurancePaid time off (starting at 17 days annually)10 paid holidays401(k) with 6% employer matchPaid parental leaveProfessional development and tuition reimbursementEmployee assistance and wellness programsBe more than just an employee…Lerch Bates is 100% employee-owned! Regular travel to project sites is required and may include commercial buildings, occupied facilities, active construction sites, industrial locations, rooftops, and other environments where building evaluations, testing, or construction observations are performed. Frequent use of computers, keyboards, measuring equipment, and handheld devices is required.Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, safety footwear, hearing protection, and fall protection when applicable.Travel by automobile and occasional air travel may be required.Mental Demands:This position requires strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Employees must be able to interpret construction documents, building codes, technical specifications, engineering data, and field observations while exercising sound professional judgment.The role requires managing multiple projects, balancing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changing project conditions. Effective written and verbal communication, technical report writing, client presentations, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and attention to detail are essential.Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test.
