Position Overview We are seeking an Associate Attorney with experience in transportation litigation to join our litigation team. The successful candidate will handle a range of matters involving trucking, motor carrier, and commercial transportation disputes, defending clients in state and federal courts and in alternative dispute resolution forums. This role requires strong litigation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage cases from intake through trial under the supervision of senior counsel.
Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of transportation and commercial litigation matters, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and case management. Conduct factual and legal research and draft briefs, memoranda, motions, and responses for state and federal court filings. Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and coordinate with experts and consultants on accident reconstruction and industry-specific issues. Handle client communications and develop strategies with lead counsel; provide timely status updates and billing documentation. Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and other alternative dispute resolution processes. Prepare for and argue hearings and trials, including jury instructions, witness examinations, and trial exhibits. Collaborate with internal teams and outside counsel on complex matters and cross-jurisdictional issues. Maintain organized case files, comply with court rules and deadlines, and ensure adherence to firm policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Active membership in the California State Bar in good standing (required). 1+ years of litigation experience, preferably with a focus on transportation litigation, commercial litigation, or related areas. Proven experience in civil discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation. Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Familiarity with motor carrier and trucking industry regulations, safety rules, and accident reconstruction concepts preferred. Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent client-facing skills, professional demeanor, and strong ethical judgment.
Experience working in law firm environments and proficiency with legal technology, e-filing, and case management systems.
