Associate Attorney

Bell, Moore & Richter, S.C. is seeking a highly motivated, full-time Associate Attorney with a minimum of four years experience in civil litigation or a related field. We are located in downtown Madison serving clients throughout Wisconsin since 1851.

As a civil litigation attorney, you will represent clients in legal disputes, managing cases from initial investigation and pleadings through discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial.

Key Responsibilities

• Case Assessment & Strategy: Evaluate the facts and legal merits of a dispute to advise clients and build a plan for resolution.
• Pleadings & Motions: Draft formal complaints, answers, legal briefs, and dispositive motions for state or federal court.
• Discovery Management: Conduct depositions, interview witnesses, review medical or financial records, gather physical or documentary evidence, and manage written document exchanges or subpoenas.
• Settlement Negotiations: Negotiate with opposing counsel and participate in mediations to resolve disputes outside of court.
• Courtroom Advocacy: Argue motions, examine witnesses, and present trials or appeals before judges and juries.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Licensure: Active Wisconsin license to practice law.
• Experience: 4+ years of hands-on civil litigation, insurance defense, or trial experience. Courtroom, motion practice, and deposition experience a plus.
• Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication, analytical problem-solving, strict attention to detail, public speaking, and caseload management skills.

Salary commensurate with experience.
