Associate
A special education paraprofessional assists lead teachers with classroom management and instruction for students with special needs, providing one-on-one support, helping to implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and monitoring student progress. Other duties involve supervising students during non-instructional times, assisting with personal care, collecting data, and preparing/organizing classroom materials.
Core responsibilities
- Instructional Support:
Assist with implementing lesson plans, reinforce concepts with individuals or small groups, and present or adapt materials as directed by the teacher. - Student Support:
Provide direct, one-on-one assistance to students with their academic, social, and behavioral needs. - IEP Implementation:
Help with the implementation and monitoring of goals outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). - Classroom Management:
Support the lead teacher in maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Supervision:
Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, and during lunch or bus duty. - Data Collection:
Record and track student progress, attendance, and behavior to assist with evaluations and IEP revisions. - Personal Care:
Assist students with personal needs such as toileting, dressing, and hygiene, as required. - Administrative Tasks:
Help with administrative duties like preparing materials, grading assignments, and maintaining student records. - Collaboration:
Communicate with the special education teacher, other staff, and sometimes parents regarding student progress and needs. - Behavioral Support:
Implement positive behavior management strategies and provide support for students with emotional or behavioral concerns.
