Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Assisted Living Program within the community.
  • Direct and manage staff providing care and meeting the needs of residents.
  • Oversee operations and direct day‑to‑day staff functions in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the community.
  • Ensure that emotional, physical, psychological, and safety needs of residents are met through all program services and activities.
  • Ensure staff compliance with the written policies and procedures established by Brookdale and the community.
  • Manage labor costs, supplies, and other line items in the department budget.
  • Meet with staff and support personnel to plan and schedule shifts, services, programs, and activities.
  • Write and review resident assessments and care plans.
  • Develop and/or monitor documentation systems to ensure all regulatory timeframes for review of assessments and service plans are met.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis in a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Oversee facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Complete accident and incident reports as necessary.
  • Schedule and conduct new resident orientation.
  • Assess potential residents for assisted living level of care.
  • Provide leadership to personnel assigned to the department, including hiring, firing, disciplining, and performance reviews.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Resident Services to hold family/resident care conferences and serve as a liaison between residents, families, and staff.
  • Make periodic checks to ensure prescribed treatments are properly administered.
  • Assist with completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting as necessary.
  • Review medication cards for completeness and accuracy of transcribed physician orders and adherence to stop‑order policies.
  • Work with the Education Coordinator to schedule in‑service training classes.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college.
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in assisted living, long‑term care, or hospital settings, with experience caring for the senior population.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory/management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, daily operations, discipline, and counseling.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Must hold a valid Assisted Living Administrator's License in states where required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Decision Making

  • Extensive knowledge of the organization’s functions and thorough understanding of the work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and delegate assignments based on skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and judgment abilities.
  • Applies existing guidelines to make varied decisions within the department and uses sound judgment to solve moderately complex problems.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Standing, walking, sitting, using hands/fingers, reaching with hands/arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Talk or hear; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires interaction with co‑workers, residents, or vendors, and is on‑call as needed.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, infections, latex, blood‑borne pathogens, drugs, chemicals, and other biological hazards.
  • Possible injury from transferring, repositioning, or lifting residents.
  • Requires frequent travel.

Salary Range

$62,490 - $79,608 per year
