WSP USA, Inc. (WSP) is seeking an Assistant Vice President in Transportation Planning for our Advisory & Planning business in Texas, preferably Houston. The role involves providing subject‑matter expertise, client advising, staff management, and project management on Texas transportation projects and programs.

Impact

  • Oversee the use of topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS data, and other visualization tools to determine exact locations and assess impacts.
  • Lead large‑scale transportation planning projects, manage budgets, monitor events, track hours and expenses, ensure profitability, and supervise subcontractors.
  • Contribute to and manage multidisciplinary project teams for siting, impact assessment, approval, permitting, and transportation planning.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the long‑term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Transportation Planning work, focusing on opportunities across disciplines.
  • Perform professional transportation planning work, investigations, inspections, studies, and surveys to support equitable development and mobility planning.
  • Lead contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents, to minimize impacts to the community and environment.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, environmental planning, or policy work.
  • Experience leading projects similar to those described above and managing staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Ability to develop business and technical strategy and manage high quality deliverables on projects and proposals.
  • Experience with project administration and project management in the transportation sector.
  • Strong communication skills, high energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude.
  • Proficiency in the transportation project development cycle, from planning to implementation.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with MicroStation and/or GIS highly desirable.
  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to present ideas orally and in writing.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to work in the United States.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional licensure or certification.
  • Experience with Texas‑based transit agencies, Texas Department of Transportation, and Texas Metropolitan Planning Organizations.
