Job Description:
The Assistant Retail Store Manager (ASM) is a full-time, KPI-driven leader responsible for executing store-level performance standards on every shift and during every pay period. The ASM directly supports the Store Manager by owning day-to-day sales execution, labor discipline, coaching, guest experience, and compliance in a high-volume Adult-Use and Medical cannabis retail environment.
This role is hands-on and floor-focused, designed for leaders who thrive on real-time coaching, performance accountability, and operational discipline. ASM success is measured by consistent execution of defined KPIs, not tenure or intent.
Core Accountabilities:
Revenue & Sales Execution
Achieve 100% of bi-weekly ATA (Average Transaction Amount) and TPH (Transactions Per Hour) targets
Actively lead the sales floor to drive conversion, basket size, and throughput
Identify underperformance in real time and correct through coaching, redeployment, or escalation
Guest Experience & Reviews
Drive exceptional customer experiences through direct floor leadership and coaching
Generate and track new Google reviews bi-weekly through consistent guest engagement
Maintain a positive Google rating through service recovery, coaching, and accountability
Payroll & Labor Discipline
Execute schedules and staffing plans to ensure bi-weekly payroll does not exceed budgets
Monitor productivity, breaks, and floor coverage throughout each shift
Escalate labor risks proactively to the Store Manager
Menu & Inventory Execution
Ensure 100% of menu par expectations are met every shift and every day
Verify in-store and online menu accuracy at the start and end of each shift
Communicate inventory risks immediately to prevent lost sales
Marketing Data Accuracy
Ensure marketing forms are accurately and completely captured for every transaction, every shift
Coach budtenders on proper data entry and reinforce accountability
Report trends and gaps to Store Manager and Marketing partners
Loyalty Program Growth
Drive 100% achievement of bi-weekly loyalty sign-up goals
Coach budtenders on loyalty value proposition and enrollment execution
Track performance by individual and shift, correcting gaps immediately
Coaching & Performance Development
Coach and train all underperforming budtenders (those not meeting KPIs) on the NEALT sales process
Document coaching interactions and elevate continued underperformance to the Store Manager
Support corrective action plans and retraining as needed
Compliance & Risk Management
Maintain 100% regulatory compliance at all times
Support ongoing team training and corrective action related to compliance
Open and close the store in accordance with security and compliance protocols when scheduled
Leadership & Operational Responsibilities
Act as Manager on Duty, setting the tone for urgency, professionalism, and accountability
Lead daily shift huddles to communicate:
Sales goals
Product priorities
KPI expectations
Maintain store cleanliness, safety, and visual standards
Support onboarding and training of new hires
Serve as acting Store Manager when needed to ensure continuity of leadership
Participate in store meetings, audits, and operational initiatives
Other duties as assigned to support store success
Qualifications:
- Must be 21+ and eligible to obtain required state cannabis agent registration
- 2+ years of retail leadership experience; high-volume or regulated retail preferred
Demonstrated ability to execute and influence KPI-driven performance
Strong coaching, communication, and floor leadership skills
Comfort holding peers accountable and addressing underperformance
Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
Proficient with POS systems, scheduling tools, and performance reporting
Ability to perform physical retail tasks (standing, lifting, bending, etc.)
